Pecan Square Café

Austin, Texas, USA

A Warm Slice of Welcoming Design

An eclectic mix of American and European café stylings converge at a friendly neighbourhood restaurant in Austin, Texas.

Completed in spring 2022, the remodelled café balances a mix of styles and tastes. The atmosphere is relaxed yet with sophisticated service. Warm hospitality defines the restaurant with its rustic food and wine programmes inspired by California, Mediterranean and Texas cuisines.

Taking an existing restaurant space in a hilly residential neighbourhood near downtown Austin, the new owners set about redesigning and introducing an entirely new concept, look and feel for Pecan Square Café.

Mirroring the diverse culture and famous hospitality of the southern states, Pecan Square Café embodies a feeling of welcomeness through eclectic elements and styles. The owners blended mid-century Northern California design elements with an American Southwest palette and European café stylings. Alongside classic references, custom artworks by emerging Texas artists decorate the clean walls.

According to the interior design team, “We wanted to fill the space with furniture that was inspired by the essence of Pecan Square Cafe: organic, classic, and familiar. The Series 7™ barstools, originally designed by Arne Jacobsen, reflect this with their timeless silhouette and materiality. The walnut leather seats add a cushy comfort to the bar and compliment the Doug Fir clad walls and ceilings.”

Representing timeless modernism, Arne Jacobsen’s Series 7™ design from 1955 is a modern furniture history icon. Clad in warm walnut leather, the barstools offer style and comfort to the imaginative space.
