The exhibition will be held from November 21st (Thu) to December 7th (Sun), 2024, at Annex Space (13 Jahamun-ro 10-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul). Conceived in collaboration with SAA(Screen Art Agency), a screen-printing production studio founded by Sanha Lee and Sunghoon Jung, 《BLUE PROOF》 revisits the timeless Series 7 chair through the lens of contemporary creators. The exhibition highlights Jacobsen’s enduring design philosophy, reinterpreted for today’s creative context.
Arne Jacobsen, a renowned designer for Fritz Hansen and a pioneer of Danish modernism, introduced a new design language based on function and simplicity in an era of ornamentation. Using Fritz Hansen’s molded plywood technology, he created the Ant Chair in 1952 and developed it further into the Series 7 Chair in 1955. The Series 7 has since become an icon of modern furniture design. 《BLUE PROOF》 is inspired by Jacobsen’s creative spirit - his visionary pursuit of a new future society - and SAA’s experimental, process-driven approach. Using the layered method of screen printing, SAA deconstructs and reinterprets Jacobsen’s patterns, printing them three-dimensionally onto the Series 7 to create nine experimental pieces. The title 《BLUE PROOF》 combines the ideas of “blueprint” and “trial proof,” symbolizing imagination, experimentation, and the process of envisioning the future.
The nine collaborat ive works created with SAA will be available for purchase at the exhibition and online(annexprojects.com), with proceeds supporting future creat ive endeavours. This meaningful exhibition reintroduces the timeless Series 7 in a new light, inviting viewers to reflect on seventy years of its enduring legacy. SAA (Screen Art Agency, Sanha Lee & Sunghoon Jung) is a studio that explores image-making through screen printing, a form of fine art printing. As independent creators, SAA develops a dist inct ive visual language; as creative partners, they translate the visions of various art ists, designers, and brands into printed form.
