FRITZ HANSEN Exhibition in HONJIMA 2025

This year, Fritz Hansen once again presents a special exhibition event on Honjima, a small island floating in the Seto Inland Sea. Located about 30 minutes by ferry from Marugame Port in Kagawa Prefecture, Honjima offers views of the Seto Ohashi Bridge and is home to fishing villages and historic townscapes that date back to the Edo period—places that evoke a sense of nostalgia in every visitor. Despite facing challenges such as population decline, vacant homes, and aging infrastructure, the island continues to be a tranquil place where rich nature and local life coexist, creating a uniquely peaceful atmosphere. In collaboration with the interior design store "CONNECT" in Marugame City, Fritz Hansen has previously held two exhibitions in 2019 and 2022, using traditional Japanese houses in the Kasashima district—an area designated as a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. These exhibitions, under the concept of “Fritz Hansen An (庵),” created spaces where Scandinavian design and traditional Japanese architecture intersect, offering visitors a chance to connect with the true essence of furniture. Now in its third edition, the 2025 exhibition will expand with the addition of a new venue: "Kasashima to.," a traditional house adjacent to Fritz Hansen An. Together, these two unique spaces will present different expressions of Scandinavian furniture, harmonizing with the surrounding island scenery. As in past exhibitions, recycled chair shells from the Circular program will be subtly integrated into the landscape of Honjima. Surrounded by the island’s calm air and natural beauty, visitors are invited to slow down and experience a moment where timeless Scandinavian design blends into the scenery—an opportunity to reflect on the enduring beauty and essence of furniture.
