Fritz Hansen-An

Fritz Hansen-An exhibition in collaboration with CONNECT

Fritz Hansen-An (Fritz Hansen Hermitage)

Regional revitalization through Scandinavian interiors

Historic Japanese architecture and Danish design combine in an Edo-period house on Honjima, a quiet island in the Kagawa Prefecture. The Fritz Hansen-An exhibit is presented by Fritz Hansen in collaboration with CONNECT, a store in Shikoku focused on interior design and Scandinavian furniture. CONNECT’s founder Tomohito Takagi has set out to revive Honjima through industry, tourism and employment opportunities for the sake of the island’s future. Today the island is home to a small, ageing population and many old, uninhabited houses and vacant buildings.

Takagi-san began renovating uninhabited houses on Honjima in 2017 with students of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (KADK) whom he met while traveling to Scandinavia. Visitors to Fritz Hansen-An may visit this renovation project, enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the sea of Setouchi and relax in N01 Café at the ferry dock of the island. N01 Café welcomes visitors to the island and introduces the N01™ chair by Fritz Hansen and Japanese studio nendo.

Fritz Hansen-An is open to the public until mid-December, inspiring guests with Danish design icons within a historic Japanese setting.
