After Series

Named After, as a reference to the design approach, the series introduces a more modern design language to the Fritz Hansen collection, yet with a sense of continuity from its heritage lineage. It is the first collaboration between Anastassiades, a renowned designer of lighting, furniture and objects, and Fritz Hansen, the 153 year old Danish brand. The result is a chair clearly authored by Anastassiades that bears traces of classics by Danish masters such as Kaare Klint and Poul Kjærholm. The round dining table echoes the clarity and play on geometry in a sturdier form. Their honesty, purity and materiality, a testament to the technical prowess and craftsmanship of Fritz Hansen.

“My approach is based around the idea of collective contribution, building on the Danish design heritage and bringing my own layer of simplification and thinking. There is a lot of clarity in shapes and forms and why they need to be there, they are very considered and geometric, primal in a way,” says Anastassiades.

Michael Anastassiades

With a career spanning more than 20 years, Michael Anastassiades has conceived lights, furniture and objects characterised by a poetic yet rigorous interpretation of technology, materials and functions. The Cyprus born and London-based designer trained as a civil engineer at London’s Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine before taking a master’s degree in industrial design at the Royal College of Art. His practice encompasses both industrial production and artisan techniques, drawing inspiration from many sources which he distils into pure, simple forms that balance improvisation and structure, control and intuition. Since setting up his studio in 1994 he has collaborated with leading manufacturers including Flos, B&B Italia, Herman Miller, Mutina and Bang & Olufsen. His work is featured in permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
