Republic of Fritz Hansen™ sets very high standards when it comes to the aesthetic quality, malleability and durability of plastic. ASA is a proven and robust type of plastic. The chair Ice™, designed by Kasper Salto, is made out of ASA, which contributes to the chair’s durable nature. This material retains its colour even outdoors and like other types of plastic, is easy to clean and has good surface quality.
PP is a durable material and can be used in a multitude of ways in order to enhance the longevity of the piece. This robust material has been in use for 50 years. At Republic of Fritz Hansen™, it is PP that has made it possible to give the chair RIN™, designed by Hiromichi Konno, its organic form.
NYLON (PA, POLYAMIDE)
PA is better known as Nylon. Nylon is a common material often used to make technically demanding components and everyday products. It is Nylon that gives the award-winning chair NAP™ designed by Kasper Salto, its unequaled durability and ensures that it retains its colour and is easy to clean.
ACRYLIC (PMMA, PLEXIGLASS)
PMMA is the chemical name for Acrylic. Acrylic is a resilient plastic with the unique feature that it can be transparent. Acrylic is a proven material and has been on the market for nearly 80 years under the product name, Plexiglass. At Republic of Fritz Hansen™, Acrylic is used for, among other things, Poul Kjærholm’s PK71™.
MAINTENANCE & CARE
Clean the plastic shell by wiping it with a dry cloth. Dirt can be removed with a cloth wrung out in lukewarm water. If this does not remove the dirt, a mild solution containing a universal cleaning agent or dishwashing liquid may be used. Then dry off the shell with a cloth wrung out in clean water and finish by wiping with a dry cloth.
The base can be wiped with a dry or moist cloth and then dried off with a dry cloth. Cleaning and maintenance of fabric and leather must take place in accordance with the instructions given for fabric/leather.
