Recycling
Metals are sold to a scrap dealer and melted for recycling.
Chair shells made of plastic can be granulated and recycled.
Repair
All products are repair-friendly and can be separated into individual main components.
Returning
Fritz Hansen has not established a system for the return of furniture. The primary reason for this is that only an insignificant proportion of our furniture would be returned. Most of our products are ”classics” and often re-sold as ”collector’s items” by antique shops, design stores or art dealers; also privately owned pieces of furniture are often passed on from one generation to the next. In view of Denmark’s consistent environmental legislation and the public refuse schemes in operation all over the country, there seems to be no need for an actual return programme.
Suppliers
Before Fritz Hansen enters a collaborative partnership with a supplier, the environmental stance and working methods of this supplier are scrutinised since these are critical factors. Details of the scrutiny can be found in the procedure for supplier control laid down in the company’s quality and environmental control systems under ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:1996.
Waste water
(from the bonding processes)
Waste water from the bonding processes is purified and discharged. The dry waste from these processes is burnt - and only the residue remaining from this is disposed of (by Kommunekemi).
Waste water
Fritz Hansen has been granted a special permit to discharge treated (purified) waste water (from adhesives).
Wood The wood and veneer used in the Fritz Hansen furniture production come from controlled forestry. Waste from wood-based plates is granulated and the granules are recycled to produce wood briquettes. Wood and veneer can be also be combusted (incineration facility) and utilised for energy purposes.
