THE SWAN™ Designed by Arne Jacobsen.
1,958 unique Swan chairs will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Arne Jacobsen design from 1958. The unique Swans are available from November 1, 2008 and each chair is provided with a numbered ring in Sterling silver.
It started out in Jacobsen's own garage
The Swan and the Egg were both designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the lobby and lounge areas in the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. These two original designer chairs originated in Jacobsen's own garage in his home in Klampenborg north of Copenhagen and have been in production by Fritz Hansen ever since.
Inside the Swan
In 1958 the Swan was a technologically innovative chair: No straight lines - only curves. A moulded shell of synthetic material on an aluminium star swivel base with a layer of cold foam covering the shell upholstered in fabric of leather.
The Swan in 2008 - a collector's item
In 2008 we introduced a new variety of the Swan - the Swan as a desk chair, i.e. with increased height for exclusive conference rooms and dining rooms. The limited number of Swans are upholstered in soft white leather, and the base is polished in a mother of pearl finish. For a short time only, the Swans are available at selected dealers at a suggested retail price of approx. EUR 6,540 excl. taxes.
